Is Pikes Peak open today?
The Highway is open year-round, weather permitting, but snow often closes the top part. Here is how to check before you leave, in order.
Two-minute check
- How far is the road open? The official site's home page shows "Open to …" with a mile number and today's gate hours. Staff update it about 15 minutes before opening and again as conditions change. drivepikespeak.com
- No signal or unclear? Call the road-conditions line: 719-385-7325, then press 1 twice.
- See the summit: the city runs summit webcams in seven directions plus Cog Railway cameras. Summit cameras
- Riding the Cog? Snow can stop the train short of the summit. Check with the railway: 719-685-5401 or cograilway.com.
- Weather up top: the live summit forecast from the National Weather Service.
Days it is always closed
- Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (Highway).
- Hill Climb race day: Sunday, June 27, 2027.
Hours when it is open
From October 1 to the Thursday before Memorial Day the uphill gate opens at 9:00 AM with last entry at 3:00 PM. In summer it opens at 7:30 AM. Full table on the Highway page.
What "open to mile 6" means
When snow closes the upper road, the city opens it only part-way. On November 3, 2026 it was open to Crystal Reservoir, mile 6 (9,160 ft). You can still drive that far and pay admission, but you will not reach the summit by car that day.
