Who runs this site
pikespeak.info is an independent trip-planning guide. It is run by the publisher named on the About page. It is not the official site of the City of Colorado Springs, the Pikes Peak Highway or the Cog Railway.
The short version
- No accounts, no cookies, no advertising trackers.
- Page views are counted, not people.
- Your email address is stored only if you sign up for the permit reminder, and only for that.
- AI assistants that use our planning tools send us trip details only, and we keep none of it.
When you read the site
- Hosting. Cloudflare, Inc. serves the pages. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver them. The site does not keep visitor logs of its own.
- Page counts. Cloudflare Web Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics count page views without cookies. We see totals per page, referrer and country, not individual visitors.
- Partner clicks. When you follow a tour, hotel or car-rental link, our server counts the click: which link, which page it was on, the country Cloudflare reports, and whether the request looked like a browser or a bot. Your IP address and browser details are not stored with it.
- Planner use. Our server counts a few anonymous actions on this site: a plan built, saved, shared, added to a calendar or saved for offline use, the road-status page opened, a calculator used, how far a page was read and roughly how long it stayed open. Each count holds the action, the page, the country Cloudflare reports and whether the request looked like a browser or a bot. No cookies and no IDs; your IP address and browser details are not stored.
- Saved plans. If you press Save plan or Save offline, the plan (date, way up, start time and the options you chose) is kept in your browser's local storage and offline cache, on your device only. It is never sent to us. Remove it with the Remove link on the home page or by clearing this site's data in your browser.
- Road status. The "Is Pikes Peak open" box asks our own server, which reads the city's public status page. Your browser does not contact the city's site for it.
- Weather. The forecast widget is loaded by your browser straight from the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov). Like any website, the Weather Service receives your IP address for that request.
AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude and others)
Our planning tools can also be used inside an AI assistant. When you ask ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant about Pikes Peak, it may call our server to plan a day, read today's road status and forecast, compare costs, estimate a hike time or look up a fact. The assistant decides when to call and what to send.
- What we receive. Trip details only: a date, the way up, a start time, how many adults and children, a pace, yes or no for children and for coming from sea level, a starting point from a fixed list, and the words of a facts search. No name, no email address, no account, no login. The tools do not ask for any of these, and an assistant is told not to send them.
- What we keep. Nothing. The answer is worked out and sent back. There is no database behind the tools and no log of requests; the request is not kept once it has been answered. There is nothing to delete.
- The conversation. Your chat stays with the assistant's provider (OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude, or whoever runs the assistant you use) under its own privacy policy. We see only the tool inputs it sends us, not the rest of your conversation and not who you are.
- Whose connection. The request usually reaches us from the assistant's servers, not from your device, so Cloudflare, which serves the tools like the rest of the site, sees the assistant's address, not yours. If you connect a tool on your own computer straight to our server, it is your connection, as when you read the site.
- Road status and weather. For today's conditions our server reads the city's public status page (refreshed every 15 minutes) and the National Weather Service forecast. Both requests come from our server, not from you.
- Links in answers. Links to our pages carry a tag naming the assistant (for example
utm_source=chatgpt) so our page counts show where readers came from, not who they are. Tour and hotel links in answers are partner links, marked as such, and are counted like any partner click on this site: the link, the assistant it was shown in instead of a page, the country Cloudflare reports, and whether the request looked like a browser or a bot. No cookies; your IP address and browser details are not stored.
Using the tools through an assistant is covered by the same terms of use as the site.
The permit-reminder email list
You can ask for one email when the 2027 Pikes Peak timed-entry permits go on sale. You are added only if you enter your address and tick the consent box.
- What is stored: your email address, when you signed up, and whether you unsubscribed. Nothing else, not your name and not the page you signed up on.
- Where: with Resend, Inc. (USA), the service that stores the list and sends the email for us. Resend handles the address on our behalf. Open and click tracking are switched off.
- What you get: one email when permits go on sale, with the alternatives if they sell out (shuttle, Cog Railway, tours that include the ride up). Tour links in it may be partner links, marked as such. No newsletter, no other mail.
- How long: the list is deleted once the 2027 reminder has gone out, at the latest on September 30, 2027.
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link. One click takes you off the list.
- Deletion or a copy: write to [email protected] from the address you signed up with. We delete it from Resend, or send you what is stored, and confirm by reply.
The address is never sold, shared with partners or added to any other list.
Partner sites
Some links go to GetYourGuide, Viator, Stay22 (which hands over to Booking.com) and Klook. They pass through a short redirect on this site that adds a tag naming our page, or the assistant that showed the link, not you. Once you are on a partner site, its own privacy policy and cookies apply.
